Base Coat of HOK Galaxy Grey |
Ensure that the surface is prepared correctly according to the HOK Technical Manual. If filler has been used, Sealer is highly recommended prior to base coat. Using an DeVillebis HVLP set at 10 lbs. The HOK Technical Manual requires SG100 Intercoat Clear before any taping is done. |
Laying out the design |
Using 1/8" bendable 3M outlining tape, create the feature outline of the graphic. Make sure that the tape sticks to the part otherwise overspray will occur under the tape line. |
Masking the Layout |
Mask the entire area with film. I use the transparent kind as it is easy to see the outline and it is designed to bend around radiuses. |
Cut out the Mask and Overlap Areas |
Using a craft knife with a sharp blade, trace the center of the blue tape being careful not to cut into the actual part. These scratches will be seen and subsequent coats will not cover them. Also note that the overlapped area has no border. These have been carefully cut away |
Graphic Color - Orion Silver |
Using an Air Brush, ovlerlay a coat of Orion Silver |
Highlights and Shadows |
Pick a light source angle to model and lay in shadowing using black in the air brush. Next, lay in highlights on the edges that face the hypothetical light source. For this I use a mixture of 80% Orion Silver to 20% white. |
Color Kandy. |
Using an DeVillebis HVLP set at 10 lbs layer 5 coats of Kandy. I used a 50% mix of Oriental Blue and Cobalt Blue. Cover with a catalyzed Clear (UC35) This example was not yet color sanded, Buffed or polished. |
